Mexico silver, copper and gold output down in Jan

MEXICO CITY: Silver output in Mexico, the world's largest producer of refined silver, fell 31 percent to 152,497 kgs in January, against 220,432 kgs in January 1998, the national statistics institute Inegi said on Tuesday.

Gold production also fell, by 16 percent, to 1,779 kgs in January, compared with 2,118 kilograms in the year-ago period.

For the month of January, copper production fell to 22,125 tonnes, compared with 27,640 tonnes in January 1998, a fall of 20 percent.-Reuters
