Landlord killed in encounter with police

FAISALABAD: Sultan Mehmood alias Lala Ashiq, a landlord of Hivali Lakha, was killed in a police encounter, while ASI Zafar Iqbal of Okara police and a Constable Shaukat Ali, who were accompanying him, escape near Railway Crossing Tandilanwala, here on Eid night.

According to police, a Pajero (MNO 119) entered Faisalabad district limits after breaking the barrier at police Checkpost near Mari Pattan. It was chased and stopped at Tandilanwala railway crossing by a police patrol.

The driver of Pajero Sultan Mehmood alias Lala Ashiq, ASI Zafar Iqbal and Constable Shaukat started firing on the police party.

During the exchange of fire, Sultan Mehmood alias Lala Ashiq died on the spot, while Zafar Iqbal and Shaukat disappeared under cover of darkness and their Pejaro turned turtle on the spot.
