The rupee gained five paisa in the currency market of twin cities on Wednesday as the business resumed at a slow pace after Eid holidays. The market opened with the greenback at Rs.51.40 due to cash shortage in the morning. Rupee remained at the same level by the end of the day.

Abdus Samad of Khanani & Kalia said that there were less customers throughout the day as the people were still returning after the Eid holidays.

Wednesday was the closing day of the month which also caused less buying of dollar in the evening.

The buying rate of pound sterling in the kerb market on Wednesday was Rs 82.70 and selling Rs 83.00, Japenes yen, buying Rs 423 & selling Rs 423.
