FAISALABAD: The mushroom growth of illegal housing schemes is multiplying civic problems and are the main hurdle in the smooth and planned development of urban area.

This was stated by provincial Finance Minister Chaudhery Mohammad Afzal while presiding over a meeting in Circuit House here.

He said that boards should be erected in front of all such private housing schemes directing people to confirm about the provision of basic civic amenities before purchasing plots there.

He also said that concerned institutions and departments should check why the plots in these housing schemes were released without providing required civic facilities.

He further said that there was no sewerage system in 174 private housing schemes which are discharging 99 cusec effluent.

He said that as many as 40 crore rupees are required to provide the facility of sewerage system in these colonies "which is next to impossible" in the prevailing financial conditions.
