KARACHI: A gathering of top bankers of the country including chief executives of banks & DFIs from all over the country took place on Sunday in an extraordinary general meeting of the Pakistan Banks' Association.

M.B. Abbasi, President, National Bank of Pakistan, was again elected as Chairman of the Association for a second term for 1996-97. Syed Sajjad Razvi, Country General Manager of Citibank and Shameem Ahmed, President, Askari Commercial Bank were elected as Vice-Chairmen.

The meeting decided to increase the number of seats of the Executive Committee from 6 to 12 giving separate seat to DFIs, provincial banks, private and privatised banks and one additional seat for foreign banks.

Six members of the committee were elected on April 4 and six members for the increased seats were elected in the Sunday meeting.

Following is the list of the office-bearers:

M.B. Abbasi, (NBP) Chairman, Syed Sajjad Razvi, (Citibank) and Shameem Ahmed (Askari Bank) Vice Chairmen. Executive Committee members are M. Younus Dalia (HBL), Husain Lawai (MCB), I.A. Hanfi (Faysal Bank), Kassim Parekh (Metropolitan), Abbas D. Habib (Al-Habib), S. Ali Raza (Bank of America), Asadullah Khawaja (ICP), Muhammad Munawar (NDFC) and Bashir Ahmed (BoK).
