NEW DELHI: In an unusual instance of honesty, an Indian railway official penalised his elderly parents on Saturday for travelling in an upper class compartment on a second class ticket, the Press Trust of India said.

The area manager of the main railway station in the northern city of Kanpur made his parents cough up the fare difference between the two classes. The couple was travelling from the town of Allahabad to Kanpur, PTI said.

The official also reprimanded the ticket collector who wanted to please his boss by transferring the couple from a second class compartment to an air conditioned one, the agency added.-Reuter
