Ex-minister
joins PPP
SUKKUR: A former Minister of State for Production and General Secretary, PML (F), Islamuddin Shaikh Friday called on Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and announced his joining of Pakistan Peoples Party on Friday.
Sindh Governor Kamaluddin Azfar and Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah, Defence Minister Aftab Shaaban Mirani, Education Minister Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Secretary General PPP Shaikh Rafiq Ahmed and President PPP Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah were also present on the occasion.
Warmly welcoming Islamuddin Shaikh into the PPP's fold, the Prime Minister said she was delighted on his decision. She asked him to work for PPP in Sukkur alongwith the party workers and seniors. She said one day he would also become a senior member of the party.
The Prime Minister said PPP is a democratic party and believes in democracy. She said the workers have a wider platform to work for the cause of people. In Sukkur, there is wide scope to work for the people, she further said.
The Prime Minister accepted an invitation by Islamuddin Shaikh to a visit to the city some time later.
On the occasion, Islamuddin Shaikh said he is in politics for the last 17 years and has seen many ups and downs of governments. He said he left Nawaz Sharif when he was in power and decided to join PPP as he thought that it is the only party which can solve the problems of people of the country.
He expressed his full confidence in the leadership of Benazir Bhutto and said he is convinced that she is a leader capable of facing every crisis.
He particularly referred to the measures taken by the PPP government for bringing the situation in Karachi under control and said it was an outstanding achievement of the Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister.-APP
