Daewoo to build

another 4-lane

expressway

LAHORE: While the prestigious-turned-controversial Motorway between Lahore and Islamabad is yet to be completed the National Highway Authority is understood to have joined hands with Korean firm, Daewoo, for the construction of another four-lane Expressway between Pindi Bhattian and Faisalabad, Business Recorder learnt from reliable sources.

The sources, close to Daewoo, said that though it had been agreed in principle to award the contract for the 52-km long expressway on the same terms as the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Motorway, its cost estimates had not yet been firmed up as the feasibility report was still in the melting pot.

The sources further said that the Daewoo would finance the project and would recover the cost through toll tax.

The matter might be finalised within a couple of weeks as the work on the 'expressway' was likely to be undertaken during the next financial year for completion in two years by June 1998, sources added.
