ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has expressed her deep sorrow over the sad death of US Commerce Secretary, Ron Brown.

In a condolence message addressed to US President Bill Clinton the Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto said:

"The sad death of Ron Brown in such tragic circumstances came as a great shock to all of us. Ron Brown was a true friend of Pakistan. His contribution to strengthening ties between our two countries was greatly appreciated. While his death is an irreparable loss to your administration, he will also be deeply missed by his many friends and admirers in Pakistan.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences and convey these sentiments to Ron Brown's Cabinet colleagues and those at the Department of Commerce".

In a message to Brown's widow she said, "My husband and I were shocked and saddened by the tragic death of your husband".

Paying tributes to the late Commerce Secretary, Prime Minister said he was "a man of enormous energy and enthusiasm, Ron Brown did everything in his power to promote stronger ties between the United States and Pakistan".

"In a sense, his death in the Balkans is a tribute to his commitment to help bring prosperity to that war-ravaged land".

She prayed God Almighty to grant courage to the widow to bear this irreparable loss.-APP
