LHC holds 4

in contempt

LAHORE: Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued contempt of court notices to four government officials including two Ilaqa Magistrates and two SHOs, in respect of an incident in which lawyers were Lathi-charged on the premises of the LHC.

The learned Judge, who is holding an inquiry into the incident, has also directed three officers, namely, Magistrate Abdul Razzaq, Assistant Commissioner Cantonment Ms Iram Qureshi and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rao Faheem Hashim Khan to file their written replies about the incident.

The action has been taken on an application moved by Chaudhary Mohammad Farooq of the Muslim League Lawyers Forum praying that the contempt notices be issued to the officials involved in the Lathi-charge on the lawyers inside the LHC building.

The court has asked SP City, Bani Amin, Magistrate Khalil Bajwa, SHO Old Anarkali police station Saeed Shah, and SHO Naulakha police station Tariq Kamboh, why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them.

The learned judge has fixed April 11 as the next date of hearing.
