Leghari asks ulema

to promote cohesion, consensus

ISLAMABAD: President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari has urged the ulema to fulfil their religious and national duty to promote cohesion and consensus among the people for the sake of peace, progress and prosperity in the country.

He was talking to Maulana Fazalur Rehman, MNA, who called on the President with a delegation of ulema at the Aiwan-e-Sadr here on Wednesday.

The President said that the religious scholars should also manifest complete consensus on all important national issues.

He also invited the religious leaders to start a movement for improving literacy rate and quality of the education in the country. He said that he had decided to himself visit atleast two primary schools every month to know and solve the problems of students and teachers of our rural areas. He hoped that other leaders of public opinion shall also do so and the national media particularly PTV shall give prominent coverage to such visits of VIPs in primary and secondary schools in order to have community involvement and participation in it.

Maulana Fazal fully appreciated the President views for the promotion of literacy and stability in the country and assured him that the Ulema will play their due role for this.
