LCCI asks for

steps to make

engineering

units viable

LAHORE: The President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Tariq Sayeed Saigol on Wednesday appealed to the government to take remedial measures to make engineering industry a viable sector.

Speaking at the seminar on " Development of Engineering Industry" at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) here, he said that most of the impediments to the development of the engineering sector in Pakistan were being generated by factors external to the industry and fell beyond the control and purview of the private sector.

He hoped that the government authorities would take into consideration the recommendations of the seminar while formulating policies on engineering sector.

Saigol said that the holding of seminar and study periods , which were a prominent feature of LCCI activities towards developing synthesised views on topical issues and also towards keeping the businessmen and industrialists updated on the new developments in the modern day competitive world.

He said that the main objective of holding this seminar was to arrive at a consensus within the industry on a set of policies that would nurture the establishment of the engineering industry in the country and help the existing industry to expand and flourish.

Earlier, LCCI's convener Standing Committee on Engineering Industry , Sikandar M. Khan presented address of welcome.

Prof. Dr. Javaid Ghani of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) presented the findings of his research on Pakistan's engineering sector on this occasion.-APP
