LAHORE: Former Chief of Army Staff General (Retd) Mirza Aslam Beg has said that some known figures of the country had conspired to grab power by backing Imran Khan as next prime minister of Pakistan.

The personalities, who ran Imran's fund raising campaign included former ISI chief, Hameed Gul, Abdus Sattar Edhi, Ansar Berni, Hakeem Saeed, and Salah-uddin (late), he disclosed.

Disclosing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that the people wanted to dethrown Benazir Bhutto. But when their mal-intentions were exposed to the government, Sattar Edhi and Ansar Berni sneaked from the country to avoid expected action against them. Hameed Gul formed his own independent political group, while Hakeem Saeed again focused his attention on his Hikmat, Salahuddin was killed in Karachi while Imran Khan was facing isolation, he added.

He criticised Imran Khan for adopting such a nasty way to become prime minister of Pakistan. He advised Imran that he should have taken the nation into confidence rather trying to bulldoze the constitution.-PPI
