KAPS to be

handed over

to National Power

by end June

KARACHI: Kot Addu Power Station (KAPS) will be handed over to the National Power of UK at the bid price of $215 million by end of June.

The power station was sold in March last to National Power. Following the deal a number of meetings were held among Privatisation Commission, Wapda, PSO, SNGPL and the new owners of the station to sign a variety of agreements.

The exercise involved finalising 10 different agreements dealing with the purchase of power by Wapda, supply of gas and oil by SNGPL and PSO respectively, sale of shares and services by Wapda and the implementation of the accord, reached by the Privatisation Commission with hydro labour union (CBA) in August, 1995 to protest the interests of the Kot Addu Power Station's employees, said a statement, received here on Wednesday.

Currently testing of all 15 turbines of the station is being carried out to establish its initial dependable capacity. The task involves testing of various energy and flow meters some of which had to import for their testing and calibration since the certified facilities for such testing were not available in the country.
