escapes unhurt
QUETTA: Chairman Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Mahmood Khan Achakzai, MNA, escaped an attempt on his life near Gulistan on Sunday.
Later addressing a hurriedly called press conference PMAP leadership including Senator Akram Shah, Provincial Minister for Services and General Administration Dr. Kaleemullah and Minister for Prisons Obedullah Babat gave details of the attack.
They said that Mahmood Khan in a motorcade of about 200 vehicles was going to Gulistan, his home town, for celebrating Eid-ul-Azha there. From Gulistan the flag rod of Mahmood's vehicle broke down and fell on the ground. Vehicles going ahead passed away while Mahmood's vehicle stayed behind to recover the fallen flage and flag rod. In the meantime two big explosions occurred they said, and luckily no one was hurt.
The two big explosions took place 30 feet from each other which created four feet wide and four foot deep craker in the road, they said adding. Just a few furlongs away pickets of Frontier Constabulary are located.
PMAP leadership accused drug mafia, international terrorists and governments agencies of their involvement in the murderous attempt on the life of Mahmood Achakzai. They said although the attack was serious, however, Allah Almighty saved him. Not only Mahmood Khan but all his party men and participants of motorcade also escaped unhurt, they added.
The party has decided to stage protest demonstrations and protest processions in all parts of Balochistan and Sindh on May 1, 1996. The next day a big protest public meeting will be organised at Pishin. Later the party would chalk out its future strategy, they added.-PPI
