AJK PPP demands

election date

before May 6

ISLAMABAD: Central Executive Committee AJK PPP, in a meeting, the endorsed the holding of election in Azad Kashmir on schedule, and asked the AJK government for announcing election date before May 6.

AJK PPP president barrister Sultan Mahmood told journalists Sunday that the party would launch a "protest movement" after Eid- ul-Azha if election schedule was not announced. Sardar Qayyum venturing to hold Presidential elections followed by the legislative assembly, "was unacceptable", he said, adding that PPP members in the sitting assembly would resign if he did so. He also threatened sieging Prime Minister House in Muzaffarabad

He said that Sardar Qayyum's intention of holding Presidential election first, exposed that his party could not win elections if held. He claimed that Sardar Qayyum was not elected by the votes of AJK people but was returned on technocrat seat and become Prime Minister

Barrister Sultan also accused Sardar Qayyum's son of usurping the right of "Mohajireen" and not got elected from his home constituency.

He demanded resignation of Sardar Qayyum to hold free, fair and impartial elections under judiciary. He said that Sardar Qayyum intentionally attempting to weaken the democratic institutions in Azad Kashmir which would harm the freedom movement in Occupied Kashmir. He demanded invoking Article 56 to hold free, fair and impartial election in Azad Kashmir.-APP
