rise in prices

FAISALABAD: Feeds and chicks dealers have expressed concern over the unprecedented increase in the prices of feed and threatened to start protest if steps were not taken to check the price hike.

Addressing a press conference, Haji Altaf Haider, President Feeds and Chicks Dealers Union Khurrianwala termed the raise in poultry feed prices as unjustified and added that the increase has put the poultry farmers into hot waters.

He said that feed manufacturers understand that the raise was due to the increase in the prices of various ingredients which used for the manufacturing of feed.

He was critical of the poor quality of poultry feed, which he said was generating various kind of diseases inflicting colossal loss to the farmers.

He said that the prices of beef and mutton have increased but the poultry industry, which is providing cheaper protein to the nation, suffering from high prices of input.

He said that a meeting of the feed manufacturers and government officials will be held at Lahore on April 25, to sort out this problem.
