Azfar stresses need
for science graduates
and technical force
KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamal Azafar has underlined the need to pay more attention to scientific subjects for producing scientists and researchers in the country.
He was addressing at the two-day workshop on " Coastal Aqua Culture " here on Tuesday being organized by Marine Reference Collection Centre, University of Karachi.
He said that the universities were producing armies of art graduates whereas the country needs science graduates and skilled persons.
He said that country coastal areas were endowed with vast reservoirs of petrol, gas and sea food and there was a need to have science graduates in various fields to explore these resources.
He said that the country has a 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone which can be called as fifth province of this country.
He said that city of Karachi was full of talent and there was a need to convert this talent into a technical work force by providing them training in various fields.
Pakistani work force has proven reputation of being a hard working force he said adding that recently an executive of Swiss firm who called on him has said that the Pakistani workers were equal in productivity to German workers.
He also said that he has requested the IBM executive who visited Pakistan recently to train youth of the city in the field of software engineering.
He said IBM was selling its products in Pakistan and it would also train the youth here so that they too be benefited from computer technology.
Governor said that government is paying attention to education and besides allowing private sector to establish higher education institution it was also endeavouring to establish libraries in the city. One such library with all facilities including computer network will be open in August at SBP building in District Central.
A similar library will be open at KPT building near Mai Koalcjhi Bypass, he said.
He lauded the work and collection by the centre.
Dr Abdula Wahab, Vice Chancellor of University of Karachi, Dr Waqar-uddin Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Science and Dr S.I.Ahmed Dean faculty of Pharmacy also addressed the seminar.-APP
