LB polls to be
held this year,
says Nakai
LAHORE: The Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Muhammad Arif Nakai, has assured that the local bodies elections will be held in the current year and in this regard the government is reviewing its arrangements to hold the elections in peaceful and transparent atmosphere.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he said the Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto during her recent visit to the provincial metropolis, directed the provincial government for taking practical steps in this regard. He said that the process of preparation of fresh voters list have been completed and after the announcement from the Federal Government the election schedule would be publicised.
Replying to a question about the politics of opposition, he said that opposition was not in a position to bring any political change in Punjab as he said he was enjoying the majority in the House and all members have a trust in him. He said that most of the opposition members in Punjab Assembly was ready to join treasury benches and at a proper time they will say 'good-by' to opposition. He said a lot of opposition members contacted him because they have been fed up with the policies of opposition leader.
He further said that the opposition was directly involved in the terrorist activities as the government received a lot of secret informations in this regard. He said that culprits involved in bomb blast and other terrorist activities would not be spared at any cost and strict action would be taken against them without any political and personal affiliation.
