Laila Khaled against changing PLO charter

ISLAMABAD: Laila Khaled, a veteran Palestinian freedom fighter said she was not ready to change the PLO charter that calls for Israel's destruction, BBC TV reported on Monday.

"Until now the goals that we have struggled for have not been achieved, I mean the rightful return, self determination and establishment an of independent state with Jerusalem its capital. Until now this has not changed," she told BBC.

Palestinian National Council (PNC), the Palestinian Parliament in exile, was to meet for the first time in the Gaza Strip, under the Israeli PLO agreement, which is expected to change a charter to recognise the Israeli state.

However, many PNC members opposed the move, and one of them is Laila Khaled who hijacked an airliner 27 years ago.-APP
