KCCI President
urges incentives
for anti-pollution
devices
KARACHI: Haji Shafiq-ur-Rahman, President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the government to announce an incentive package and facilities for installing anti-pollution devices and water treatment plants in the industries.
He was addressing a seminar held under the aegis of Pakistan Crescent Youth Organisation (PCYO) in connection with International Earth Day on Monday.
He also stressed the need for evolution of a single law to deal with environmental issues coupled with single agency avoiding duplication and making environmental law more effective.
He also reiterated the Chamber's stand that instead of hasty decisions, punishments and fines, industrialists be given reasonable time to comply with the evironmental standards and also be persuaded.
The Chambers president said held industrialized nations responsible for environmental degradation and said developing countries while following pattern of industrialisation followed by the resourceful developed world were worst sufferers due to resource constraints.
He advised the developing nations to choose a different path of sustainable development involving efficient utilization of resources and land alongwith efforts for pollution control. He also lauded the efforts by the PCYO for creating awareness amongst the masses.-APP
