Abad to co-operate

with govt against

building violations

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) has said that it will extend co-operation to government agencies if they initiate action against builders violating the construction bye-laws.

In a statement issued to the press on Monday, ABAD has said it is not fair to attribute scattered cases of flouting the building rules and regulations to the builders as a class.

The statement forcefully deplored the acts of a few who had brought bad name to the builders as a community and to the Association as the sole representative of builders and developers.

Taking up the case of Sea Breeze Doctors Plaza, the construction of which was started in 1988 and has not yet been completed and which has brought the entire construction sector under public criticism, ABAD said: "The owner of the Sea Breeze Doctors Plaza is not a member of the ABAD and if he is violating the building bye-laws or his agreement with his clients, it is for the concerned government agencies to take cognizance of the fact and initiate suitable action against him".

Clarifying its own position, ABAD said : "ABAD as a representative body of the builders and developers has no coercive powers and can take no action against a builder who is not its member. However, ABAD is professional body will not hesitate in extending co-operation to any government agency if it initiates any action against any builder for violating the government rules and regulations".
