Motorbike dealers
demand IT
exemption
KARACHI: Motorcycle dealers have appealed to the government to provide some relief in shape of income tax exemption to Karachi dealers owing to severe crisis being faced by the industry from last two years.
The new managing committee of Karachi Motorcycle Dealers Association (KMDA) in its meeting here on Sunday, chaired by its new president Sabir Shaikh, decided that documented proofs will be submitted to Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to seek income tax exemptions during 1996-97.
The meeting observed that due to continued increase in prices of two wheelers in proportion with snatching and theft of new motorbikes has brought business of dealers down during the past two years.
In order to discourage snatching and theft of these vehicles, the association plans to prepare recommendations in cooperation with Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and Sindh Police. These suggestions will be submitted to Governor of Sindh, the managing committee was informed.
Dealers also expressed concern over continuous ban on import of reconditioned motorcycles and it was decided that a delegation of dealers will soon hold a meeting with officials of Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Finance.
In order to systemise and legalise verification procedures of documents of second hand motorcycles, recommendations will be forwarded for reforms in motor registration wing of excise and taxation department. It has been long pending demand of secondhand motorcycle dealers that the registration system enforced in Singapore may be introduced here.
The meeting also expressed concern over thriving sale of motorcycles in Juma Bazars, in district central. A large number of stolen two wheelers are put in sale in these bazars. Higher police authorities of the district will be approached to stop organisation of such bazars to discourage theft of motorbikes, the meeting decided.-PPI
