Rs 66.8m uplift

BAHAWALPUR: The federal government has approved the second phase of the development plan of Islamia University costing Rs 66.8 million.

Dr Professor Bilal Sukhera said that work on the plan will be completed in two years. Girls and boys hostels would be constructed while one new bus will be purchased for the students.

The Vice Chancellor said that approval of second phase project by the central development working party of the federal government was a big achievement, and the university acknowledges the efforts of Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, MNA, and Chairman Standing Committee for Law and Justice on National Assembly.

Regarding research facilities, Dr. Sukhera said that an amount of Rs 5 million has been allocated in the budget 1995-96. He disclosed that memorandum of understanding has been signed with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission for the collaborative research for the next ten years and with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council in the different sectors of Cholistan desert. He said that link programmes have been established with Fire University Berlin (Germany) and Manchestere University (UK) for the promotion of research and training activities.-PPI
