Diverse opinions
on role of
multinationals
ISLAMABAD: There is a difference of opinion about the role of multinational companies in Pakistan. While some maintain that they bring skill and development, others are of the view that they transfer profits outside the country and charge inflated prices in the country where they operate.
An ABN report says that the significant contribution made by the multinationalas is that they have employed 60,000 people from Pakistan. There is an opinion that they make profits but do not transfer technology .However they bring innovative techniques to the country. A credibility gap exists between the people's perception and the actual role played by these companies . Those representing the companies defend their role .They say there are tarriffs and taxes to be paid by the companies and this factor contributes towards the inflated prices of the products.-APP
