JI flays Babar's

anti-Akhwan

statement

ISLAMABAD: Naib Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Prof. Khurshid Ahmed has condemned Interior Minister Naseerullah Babar statement against the International Islamic Organisations.

Alleging that the minister was doing so to appease his foreign masters, Prof Khurshid said that Babar's statements against Ikhwan al-Muslimeen of Egypt, the Jamaat leader said "It is highly unfortunate that the interior minister has developed the habit of making wild allegations against Islamic Organisations".

He said that Babar usually failed to produce any evidence against the groups and their leaders when challenged to substantiate his claims.

Referring to Babar's recent statement on the floor of the National Assembly, the Jamaat leader said: "The interior minister could not produce any proof against the Ikhwan al-Muslimeen which is a leading most Islamic revivalist movement. We challenge his statement. He cannot produce any evidence about involvement of Muslim brotherhood in any kind of violence in Pakistan. The minister's statement can only tarnish Pakistan's image among Muslims all over the world."

Prof Khurshid said that it was a sad commentary on "our" state of affairs that the ministers of the PPP government were prepared to go to what extent only to appease the anti-Muslim lobby in America and the West. He said that, when Babar's statement published in Arab Press, the spokesman of the Muslim brotherhood in Britain, Dr. Kamal el-Halbawy, challenged the statement terming it completely unfounded and malicious.

He appealed to the President and the Prime Minister to take notice on such irresponsible statements which can only to disservice to Pakistan and Islam.-PPI
