Country's biggest
sports complex
foundation
stone laid
KARACHI: Foundation stone of the country's biggest indoor sports complex at Kashmir Road here was laid by Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fahim Zaman Khan on Saturday.
The complex, estimated to cost Rs 85 million, will be sprawled over four-and-a-half-acres and will have a three-storey structure with a covered area of 2.5 lakh feet.
Addressing the stone-laying ceremony Administrator KMC, Fahim Zaman said that a Sports Village was being developed at Kashmir Road under Prime Minister's Karachi Package which will have facilities for all kinds of sports. Playgrounds for youth in the city of Karachi whose population had crossed 10 million mark, he said, were between few and far and attention to it was not paid in the past. The Sports Village now being developed by KMC, Fahim Zaman said, will be unique not only in the city but in the country and the world at large.
Fahim asked the engineers to complete the complex's construction on time. Its construction is expected to take 18 months. The complex will have three multi-purpose practice courts, with a capacity for 7,000 spectators. It will also have a synthetic floor, a multi- purpose hall, changing room, a cafeteria and facilities for basketball, badminton, boxing, table tennis, volleyball, judo & karate, health club and gymnastics among other games.
Municipal Commissioner Intezar Hussain Zaidi and Incharge Sports KMC Saifur Rehman Grami were also present at the ceremony.
