Calcutta tea auction
CALCUTTA: New season teas were in strong demand at dearer rates at the Calcutta tea auction this week, dealers said.
The season starts in January and ends in December.
The quantity offered was lower at 12,131 packages, compared with 19,741 at the corresponding sale in 1995.
CTC categories, with 5,730 packages offered, sold well. Medium dooars larger brokens eased by up to one rupee.
Medium whole leaf grades in Darjeeling categories, with 1,429 packages offered, were quoted between 280 and 320 rupees per kg. Selected better sorts sold at 400 to 500 rupees.-Reuter
