_Alpiace sees anomaly

in PIA's recruitment

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Air League of PIAC Employees (Alpiace) has demanded that all illegal recruitment in the national carrier be banned immediately.

Mohammad Ashraf Chaudhry, central president of the newly formed employees body, addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club regretted that advertisement for recruitment was placed in the newspapers giving P O Box No. instead of the usual way of mentioning the airline's name.

This has happened for the first time in the history of PIA which was done to misguide the genuine prospective candidates.

He said that despite the existence of CBA the vacancies were "sold to MNAs and MPAs" and filled by candidates belonging to a particular class of 'Jiyalas' ignoring merit altogether, he said.

He alleged that in 100 days 1000 'Jiyalas' were recruited in PIA.

Chaudhry appealed to President Farooq Leghari, Defence Minister Aftab Shaban Mirani and PIA Managing Director Nawaz Tiwana to ensure that Shahmin Akmal, Secretary General of Alpiace who had been removed from service and victimized, should be restored to his post, the children of PIA employees and daily wages employees be given preference for employment in the airline. The national carrier should be run according to international standard by purely professional people, bunglings and recruiting people against the rules and regulations be stopped immediately and all recruitment be held on the basis of merit and wages be given keeping in view the wage structure prevalent in other international carriers.

He said that instead of promoting the staff on the basis of seniority, ineffecient 'Jiyalas' were being promoted to positions which they did not deserve.

He has sought immediate intervention of the President of Pakistan and PIA Managing Director Nawaz Tiwana so that the 'deterioration and degradation' which the airline is now faced with could be stopped.
