backwardness of rural areas

SIALKOT: The government is determined to remove the backwardness of rural areas and raise the standard of living of people of far-flung villages and is busy in implementing a comprehensive programme in this regard under which development projects costing crores of rupees are being executed in rural areas.

It was stated by Ch Khush Akhtar Subhani, Punjab minister for Housing and Physical Planning.

Speaking on the occasion of laying foundation stone ceremony of Rs 34 lakhs drainage scheme at Kotli Amir Ali.

The minister said that the majority of the country's population resided in rural areas who lacked the civil amenities available to those living in urban areas.

As such they deserve more attention, he said and added that on this account government has included the rural development in its foremost priorities.

Under this programme the rural areas would be provided basic facilities like electricity, telephone and Suigas besides, revamping the educational health and telecommunication system on modern lines.-PPI
