KWSB directed
to elaborate
plan for better
performance
KARACHI: The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah has directed the concerned authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan to make Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) an effective organisation so that basic amenities like water supply and sewerage facilities to Karachiites can be provided to the satisfaction of the people.
The Chief Minister gave the directive during a briefing given to him by KWSB authorities at the Chief Minister House here Thursday afternoon.
Shah said that efficiency of staff and personnel working in the board can be increased through effective management techniques and training programmes. He further said that the board should find out means to mobilise its own resources and this, he said, could be easily achieved through rationalisation of billing system.
He said that the people are ready to pay for the services being provided to them by the board, however KWSB will have to improve quality of its services to the satisfaction to its consumers so that people may repose more confidence in it.
Referring to the large amount of arrears which the various government, autonomous organisations and private consumers owe to KWSB, the Chief Minister said that necessary measures may be taken to clear these dues either through reconciliation or improved collection system so that huge financial requirements of KWSB may be met and its efficiency can be improved.
The Chief Minister however, emphasised that the consumer-base may be increased and tariff structure may be rationalised as it had been reported to him that not more than seven lacs of consumers are paying for water supply services in Karachi whereas there are more than 13 lack regular electricity consumers in the city.-APP
