6 APHC leaders
arrested
in Srinagar
LONDON: Six leaders of All Parties Hurriyet Conference were arrested on Thursday by the Indian occupation forces during a peaceful march to the Indian Army Headquarters in Srinagar.
The APHC leaders, Abdul Gani Lone, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Yasin Malik, Syed Ali Geelani, Professor Abdul Ghani and Maulana Abbas Ansari had started their march from the Lal Chowk in Srinagar to the Indian Army Headquarters in the capital at 11 am. As they reached the UN Military Observers' Group Office in Sonawar at about 12 noon, they were stopped by the Indian occupation forces from proceeding further and arrested. They are being held at the Khoti Bagh Police station.
The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq was earlier prevented by the Indian forces from coming out of his residence to participate in the march.
The APHC leaders were to ask the Indian military authorities at the army headquarters to stop the killing of the Kashmiri people and to quit Kashmir.
There was a complete strike in the capital. The APHC had appealed to the people not to come out of their homes and not to give any pretext to the Indian authorities to indulge in mass killing.
As many as 200 Kashmiris were killed in early 1990 due to indiscriminate firing by the Indian occupation forces on 2 million Kashmiris marching peacefully towards the UN Observers' Group Office to convey their request for UN Security Council to implement its resolutions on Kashmir. -PPI.
