Export Business - Grain/oilseeds complex
CHICAGO: Grain and oilseed exports reported by USDA and private export sources.
CORN SALE - The U.S. Agriculture Department Wednesday said private exporters reported sales of 107,696 tonnes of corn to Japan for delivery during the 1996-97 marketing year. Marketing year for corn begins Sept 1.
SOYMEAL SALE - The Commodity Credit Corp of USDA bought 2,300 tonnes of soymeal for donation to Guatemala at $280.20 per tonne from Archer Daniels Midland Co. Shipment is for May 1-26.
WHEAT SALES - Four South Korean companies bought 50,000 tonnes total of Canadian feed wheat for May 15-June 15 delivery through a tender on Wednesday, industry sources said.
BARLEY SALE - Cyprus has accepted Glencore's and Tradigrain's bids to supply 25,000 tonnes of barley, the Cyprus Grain Commission said. The Commission said it accepted a bid from Glencore for 15,000 tonnes of barley at $192.50 per tonne and from Tradigrain for 5,000 tonnes at $178.42 and 5,000 to 6,000 tonnes at $176.42. The prices are C and F Limassol. Shipment is scheduled for May 1996.
CORN TENDERS (cont) - Morocco postponed a tender for 30,000 tonnes maize and will now tender for the amount on Friday, the Office Nationale Interprofessionnel des Cereales et Legumineuses (ONICL) said. Morocco had issued a tender for Tuesday for the maize for May 15-31 arrival.
VEGETABLE OIL TENDER - Egypt's state Food Industries Company said it wants to buy by April 24, 10,000 to 15,000 tonnes of vegetable oil and 10,000 to 15,000 tonnes of palm olein for first half July. The vegetable oil could be either sunflower oil, semi-refined cottonseed oil, U.S. cottonseed oil of 162 degrees or degummed soyoil.
MARKET TALK - Tunisia has postponed a tender on Wednesday for the purchase of 25,000 tonnes or more of maize. "Prices were too high," traders said. Shipment was for May 15-25...
MARKET TALK (cont.) - Sri Lanka's government has waived duty on rice imports to help the import of 400,000 tonnes of rice after a drought hit the nation's crop growing area, a Food and Trade Ministry official said. The duty waiver will be effective until October 15...Philippine President Fidel Ramos said Wednesday that he has approved a reduction in import tariffs for imports of wheat intended for human consumption to 10 percent from 50 percent. Ramos said the rates were reduced following a protest lodged by Manila flour millers who said a tariff rate of 50 percent for wheat would sharply raise the price of bread and in turn drive up inflation.-Reuter
