DHAKA: Thw Bangladesh taka closed steady at 41.5985/41.6000 to the dollar in inter-bank trading compared with the previous 41.5980/41.6000, dealers said.

"Although the demand for dollars was huge due to import payments for mainly consumer items the taka remained stable. Rates were quoted within the central bank band of 41.40.41.60," said one dealer with foreign bank.

Dealers said there was short supply of dollar and many of the banks had to buy the currency from the central bank.

The inter-bank call money rates closed steady at 9.25 percent to 10.5 percent compared with the previous 9.25-10.0 percent.-Reuter
