KARACHI: Ms Kaniz Fatima, Chief of United Workers Union, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and her colleagues who were apprehended on Tuesday, were released in Karachi on Wednesday by police after intervention of Wali Mohammad Lasi, Chairman, Labo_ur Bureau.

On arrival of KMC workshop at Lawrence Road after release, she told journalists, she wants to have negotiations on demands with Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Abdullah Shah and will not hold table-talk with Wali Mohammad Lasi or Sindh Minister for Local Government, Mir Munawar Ali Khan Talpur.

She reiterated that strike will continue till reversal of decision regarding decentralisation of KMC and acceptance of their demands.

To a question she said "our issue is not political but we raise voice for rights of labourers". She said central status of KMC should be maintained. Division of KMC stands for division of the city and "we strongly oppose this decision".

She said "we do not care whoever is mayor or administrator but KMC should have one mayor or administrator and assurance of job set of KMC workers be given."

About strike call given by political parties she said they were political parties and "we are not affiliated with any political party. However, we are thankful to all those parties who were supporting our point of view," she added.

She severely condemned baton charge on KMC workers in head office on Tuesday and said DC south, Arif Elahi injured many workers hitting them by his vehicle. She termed this act of DC as cruel. She demanded his termination.-PPI
