to military camp

in Srinagar today

ISLAMABAD: In Srinagar, the All Parties Hurriet Conference (APHC) leaders would march on Thursday to the biggest military camp at Badami Bagh in protest against the stepped up Indian repression and murder attacks on APHC leaders.

The occasion would be marked by curfew-like strike and the people would remain confined to their homes, reports Kashmir Media Service correspondent.

On the other hand, the APHC (AJK Chapter) decided at its meeting in Muzaffarabad on Wednesday to stage demonstration in front of Indian High Commission in Islamabad on (Thursday) to protest against the continuing Indian repression in occupied Kashmir. The decision has been taken in response to the call for anti- India protest by the APHC in Srinagar.

The protest in front of Indian High Commission in Islamabad will be headed by the APHC (AJK) Convenor, Mahmood Ahmad Saghar and participated by its leaders. A memorandum would be handed over at the Indian High Commission, protesting against the murder attacks on Kashmiri leaders in occupied Kashmir. It will also call upon Indian Government to stop hoodwinking world public opinion by holding the election farce in occupied Kashmir.

The memorandum will also demand withdrawal of Indian troops from occupied Kashmir and allowing the people of Jammu and Kashmir to decide their political future by themselves.

At their meeting the APHC leaders condemned the murder attack on life of Yousuf-ul-Umar, the Chief of the Islamic Study Circle. He is the head of an Engineering College, an intellectual and author of several books on Islam.

Meanwhile, the Indian troops gunned down ten innocent people during a crackdown, near Bhaderva in Doda district and destroyed several houses by blasting and burning.

The mujahideen retaliated by attacking the besieging troops and six of them were killed during 3-hour long exchange of fire. Three people were killed by troops in similar actions, two in Srinagar and one at Teeragam in Kupwara district. Those killed were a Professor of Engineering College, Srinagar, Dr. Mohammad Yousuf and a youth, Javed Ahmad of Rainawari locality. The third man killed was Abdullah Gujar of Teeragam. Three people were abducted by Indian agents at Thathri in Islamabad district.

Another report said four troops were killed in an encounter with mujahideen in Handwara. A mujahid was killed in encounter with troops in a nearby village. Another mujahid was martyred in an exchange of fire with troops at Kalarus. According to witness accounts by the local people, three soldiers were killed in the two clashes. Three clashes were reported from Kupwara district in which the troops suffered considerable casualties while five mujahideen were reported martyred.

A number of troops were reported killed and injured in mujahideen's actions at Regal Chowk in Srinagar, Kakrusa and Goth, Kupwara. A clash was also reported from Shanghsan in Islamabad district but details of casualties were not available.-APP
