LAHORE: The Governor Punjab, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Raja Saroop Khan, has said that living nations commemorate their national days with patriotic verve and national enthusiasm and rededicate themselves on such occasion to continuous progress and development in all fields of life.

He was presiding over a high level meeting of the Punjab Preparatory Committee for Golden Jubilee celebrations of independence of Pakistan, here at the Governor's House on Tuesday.

During the meeting various proposals were discussed in details to commemorate 50th anniversary of celebration of Pakistan independence which included sports events, flower shows, exhibitions, declamations etc.

The governor directed for maintaining close coordination and cooperation among various nation-building departments in order to celebrate the momentous occasion in highly befitting manner.

The governor said "as a honourable and responsible people, we must be conscious of history and do our humble bit to advance the mission of our ancestors. It is for us to rededicate ourselves to ensure that the nation, conceived and created in the name of Islam, can endure for ever", he added.

Senior Minister, Malik Mushtaq Ahmed Awan, Minister for Finance, Muhammad Afzal Sindhu, Minister for Information, Mehr Saeed Zafar Padhiar, Chief Secretary Aslam Hayat Qureshi, and Secretary Information and Culture, Salman Ghani, attended the meeting.-PPI
