KARACHI: Buying activity increased on Jodia Bazar towards the close, in view of the strike call on Thursday and weekly closure on Friday. Changes were also widespread in few sectors such as Kirana, dry fruits and chemicals.
Kirana items were in demand to stock certain commodities ahead of closure so that customers are adequately supplied. White pepper turned higher by Rs. 800, white pepper from Singapore up Rs. 25, white pepper from Ceylon lost Rs. 50, black pepper gained Rs. 50, mace shed Rs. 200, cinnamon leaves lost Rs. 10, small cardamom shed Rs. 200, from Tanzania lost Rs. 120, big cardamom up Rs. 100, small cardamom shed Rs. 400, cloves lost Rs. 140, small copra climbed down by Rs. 150, Malaysia up Rs. 50, coconut edible up Rs. 25, gum arabic up Rs. 200, sago lost Rs. 25, saffron from Spain quoted at Rs. 20000, chillis dandiwali lost Rs. 110, dandicut lost Rs. 80, cuminseed black up Rs. 1400, darchini up Rs. 100, ghanta up Rs. 150, tamarind shed Rs. 20, almond Katha shed Rs. 90, almond girdi lost Rs. 80, almond Irani up Rs. 700, Kaghzi I shed Rs. 200, II up Rs. 250, walnut in shell I lost Rs. 50, II lost Rs. 350, raisin up Rs. 200, No. II up same amount, raisin III shed Rs. 400, apricot I shed Rs. 225, and pistachio turned lower by Rs. 100.
Dyes were steady but chemicals showed firmer trend on Tuesday. Caustic soda flakes Saudi up Re. one, citric acid up same amount, sodium sulphide China up 70 paisa, sodium hydrosulphite China declined by 55 paisa, PVA Japan rose by Rs. 6.50 and Sitara caustic soda turned higher by Rs. 1.50.
