Hub River

power unit to

come on stream

by June

KARACHI: The first of the four units of the 1292 megawatts oil-fired Hub River power station, costing 1.6 billion dollars, is expected to be in commercial operation by June 30 this year, while the station will be in full operation by the spring of 1997.

The project is expected to increase electricity generation in Pakistan by 13 percent, which will rank it as one of the largest power projects in the world.

This will also go a long way in overcoming the shortfall in power supply. At the moment, it costs Pakistan one billion dollars a year in output shortcomings.

National Power, the largest power generating company in the United Kingdom, is the major shareholder in the Hub River power station of 1292 mw.-PPI
