ISO-9000 course held
Industrialists
urged to improve
quality of goods
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Tariq Yousuf, Chairman, Site Association of Industry, has urged the industrialist community to improve quality of goods in order to survive in the fast-approaching competitive world trade regime following implementation of World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.
He was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony on the conclusion of one-day ISO-9000 quality standards Course, organised by Skill Development Council in collaboration with Site Association of Industry here on Monday.
Tariq Yousuf requested ILO and SDC to conduct longer duration courses and also provide consultancy and advisory services to the SITE industrialists in matters of quality insurance and other technical methods.
ILO Chief Technical Adviser Z. A. Merribay lauded the efforts of SDC and Site Association in organising this programme.
He said that ILO is needed to provide all technical assistance to the Site industrialists not only for ISO-9000 but in other technical and production related efforts, specially in the training of workers and other personnel.
Merribay further elaborated that SDC will be made more effective because it is an excellent example of the role of private sector in the training of personnel.
He said the ISO-9000 One-Day Course must have oriented the participants to the immediate and urgent need of maintaining world class standards for their products.
Earlier, Ahsanullah Khan, Chairman of Skill Development Council said that in spite of extensive publicity and in spite of the millions that Export Promotion Bureau has spent to promote the course of quality standards and the demand of importing countries for the introduction of ISO-9000 quality standards, there are only nine companies in the whole of Pakistan who have ISO-9000 certification while India already has 1800 companies which are ISO-9000 certified.
Ahsanullah said that the initial batch of 35 participants would inculcate the need of ISO-9000 in their industries and that the industrialists of Site will be the trail-blazers in the industrial community to adopt the ISO-9000 standards in their industries.
The One-Day Course was organised and conducted by Syed Nazar Ali, Ms. Shahida Abdullah and Shahid Sheikh.
Later certificates were distributed.
