India asks ICRC
to quit Kashmir
ISLAMABAD: Indian government has asked the ICRC (International Committee on Red Cross) to leave held- Kashmir.
According to ZEE Television this decision has been taken in the view of forthcoming polls in the held-Kashmir. The Indian government maintained that it would not be able to arrange visits by ICRC to the prisons during the election.
The Indian government has assured the ICRC that it will allow them to operate again in June 1996.
An ICRC official said that he was surprised by the decision and added that they did not see any problem during the polls.-APP
