LAHORE: Public sector corporations in the transport and communications sector utilised only 45.54 percent of their allocated funds on implementation of development programmes during financial year 1994-95

Official sources here told Business Recorder on Monday that public sector corporations were allocated Rs 22487.6 million under the federal programme, of which Rs 10240.082 million were utilised amounting to 45.54 percent of the total allocation.

The development programme for transport and communications sector for 1994-95 envisaged an outlay of Rs 38725.705 million including Rs 37705.215 million for the federal programme and Rs 2020.49 million for the provincial programme. The federal programme also included Rs 22487.6 million for the public sector corporations.

Against this, the expenditure incurred was Rs 28236.963 million giving an overall utilisation of 71.08 percent.

The sources pointed out that no expenditure was incurred by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation and Civil Aviation Authority, also utilised less than the allocated funds.

In ports and shipping sub sector, an expenditure of Rs 117.83 million was incurred against the allocation of Rs 155.46 million giving a utilisation of 76 percent. This was mainly due to slow progress on Jinnah Bridge Phase-II which remained behind schedule due to contractor problems.

Against the allocation of Rs 780.385 million, the Civil Aviation Authority utilised only Rs 305 million giving a utilisation of 57.3 percent.

Likewise, Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation incurred an expenditure of Rs 8885.88 million against the allocation of Rs 12100 million giving a utilisation of 73.4 percent.
