Harassment of
civilians: LHC
notice to MOD
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued notices to the Ministry of Defence and Commanding Officer of the Ammunition Depot, Thokar Niaz Beg, Multan Road, in a writ petition filed by one Tanveer Fatima of Lahore.
The Bench comprising Justice Tanveer Ahmed Khan of the LHC directed that a responsible officer of the said respondent department should also attend the Court on the next date of hearing fixed for May 7.
The petition was moved through counsel Iqbal Mehmood Awan Advocate contending that Ammunition Depot is in the neighbourhood of more than a dozen housing societies. It has been submitted that whenever allottees start construction the Jawans of the Army under the directions of Commanding Officer arrest the labourer and masons and demolish the construction.
It was argued that all these housing scheme were planned and registered housing societies and allowed by the LDA. The authorities of the ammunition depot, should have raised their objection when no-objections certificates were issued.
The learned Judge, handing over the copy of the petition to Deputy Attorney General Faqir Mohammad Khokhar, directed him to make sure the appearance of some responsible officer on the next date of hearing.
The Court has directed not to harass the petitioner in the meantime and directed the respondent to act strictly within the four corners of law.
