AG resigns

DHAKA: Bangladesh's Attorney General Mohammad Nurullah said on Sunday he had tendered his resignation to President Abdur Rahman Biswas.

"I have resigned on personal grounds, but I do not know if it has been accepted," he told AFP.

A presidential spokesman said he could not confirm if Biswas had accepted Nurullah's resignation, but a place source said an announcement was likely to be made on Monday.

Usually the attorney general is appointed on political grounds and his resignation was possibly linked to the change of government, the source said.

Nurullah was appointed to the post in July 1995 by the former prime Khaleda Zia, who resigned March 30 handing over power to a neutral caretaker administration.-AFP
