Govt not to
oppose bail
application of
Shahbaz Sharif
ISLAMABAD: The government has decided not to oppose the bail application of Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Shahbaz Sharif, a highly placed government source said.
This decision was taken in a meeting held in Prime Minister House on Thursday. The meeting was presided by Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and attended by State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Raza Rabbani and Attorney General Qazi Jamil, the source said.
A two-member division bench comprising, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Mr Justice Bashir Jehangiri will hear the bail application of Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday 14th April.
It is expected that during the proceeding of the bail application of Shahbaz Sharif in the Supreme Court, the attorney general will not oppose on behalf of the government.
The government wants to show its positive attitude and response towards opposition to create a good atmosphere for reconciliation on national issues and to cool down the temperament exists after the murder of Javed Ashraf, a worker of Muslim League, the source further said.
Meanwhile, the government had showed similar positive attitude in Shaikh Rasheed's case before Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench, earlier last month.-PPI
