spreading fast in

rural areas

LAHORE: Eminent scientist and Executive Director Cancer Research Foundation Pakistan (CRFP), Prof. Khalida Usmani on Friday expressed concern over fast-spreading cancer among inhabitants of industrial areas of the province and called upon the government to adopt precautionary measures to save valuable human lives.

Talking to APP Khalida Usmani said untreated water and industrial waste drain out into canals and rivers is playing havoc with the people particularly those living in remote areas.

She pointed out that recently a sharp rise in cancer cases is reported to the CRFP from the areas of Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Sheikhupura. She said majority of women belonging to these areas are suffering from breast cancer.

Khalida, a noted Pakistani scientist, said there is a dire need to bring about green revolution in the country by planting maximum number of trees to protect environment from being polluted which has created health hazard for the citizens.-APP
