KARACHI: Angry members of the business community, mainly belonging to chambers of commerce & industry, have formed a separate platform under the name and style of "Karachi Business Council (KBC)" to vent their grievances and make their own suggestions for the improvement of economy.

A well attended dinner meeting was organized here on Friday night by the KBC which was presided over by S.M. Muneer, former president of FPCCI and the chief guest was Shamim Ahmed, Chairman, Income Tax Settlement Commission.

Aftab Khaleeli, former president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, heads the new organization while Abdullah Ismail will be its vice-president.

The aims and objects of KBC have been listed by its members as follows:

The activities of the Karachi Business Council shall be purely commercial, social and strictly non-political.

To promote and safeguard the interest of Business Community at large and make efforts to unite and create good feelings amongst the members of the Council and arrange meeting on the subjects of commercial, industrial and social from time to time and promote and uplift the human values and create literary taste amongst the Council members.

Help and cooperate with the Provincial/Federal governments in solving the problems faced by the business community particularly middle class traders of business circle and assist and cooperate with the government authorities in maintaining peace, law and order situation in the Country.

To strive and impart tax education and provide other informations relating to different government departments thru news letters, circulars, bulletins etc to the Council members and act as a bridge between the Government and Council members and create good understandings amongst the two.

Help and cooperate with local authorities in fighting and eliminating anticommercial, industrial and social elements and make efforts and try to solve the disputes and other matters amongst the members of the Council, if it is requested for.

Establish free dispensary, reading rooms, library, educational institutions and provide free books and material to poor and needy students. Also award scholarships to able, intellectual and the devoted students.

Encourage and promote only able, highly qualified, well experienced and daring personalities for contesting elections of various trade bodies, and act in cooperation with other Associations and Mercantile bodies with a view to remove mutual hardships and complications.

To purchase, take on lease or otherwise acquire land and building and all other properties movable and immovable which the Council may consider proper to acquire. Also to construct building or buildings upon any land or premises acquired for the purpose of the Council and to alter, add to or improve any such building or buildings.

Establish and maintain Information Bureau to print and publish journals, periodicals papers, bulletins, pamphlets, leaflets and directories etc, thereby achieving the purposes of the Council, and do all such acts, deeds and things that may be conducive to the development of the trade or necessary for and incidental to the attainment of the above objects of the Council or any of them.
