'Govt planning
check to illegal
immigrants'
KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi, Ziaul Islam, said here on Friday that the government was seriously contemplating action against the illegal immigrations.
Speaking at Radio Pakistan's programme "Bilmushafa", broadcast in its provincial hook-up Friday morning, the Commissioner said it was a burden on Pakistan's already strained economy.
He said that the government was working on a serious programme to check the influx of foreigners into Pakistan. "Illegal immigrants will no more be welcomed into Pakistan", Ziaul Islam added.
'Unemployment' is one of the main problems confronting Pakistan these days. However, he said, if there are no 'jobs' available here, then why these illegal immigrants were finding their way into Pakistan and added the true picture was that 'jobs' are there but not to the liking of general Pakistanis.
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has repeatedly said that the unemployed heads should accept whatever 'job' is available to them, and they should shun the practice of exercising their choice, The Commissioner added.
'Katchi Abadis' have been cropping up every now and then, which was putting a severe strain on the already under-pressure economy, and the government has to apply a break to it, he added. "If this situation was not controlled, a day will come when it will be unmanageable", Ziaul Islam added. He said the government is seriously working on solving Karachiites problems and "Karachi Package" was a chain in the same direction.
Various projects under the Karachi Package, including Quaid-e-Awam Bridge, Liaquatabad Flyover, NIPA Flyover, Lyari Bridge and Expressway, University Road Flyover, sewerage and water supply schemes and various other schemes are being executed under this plan, he added.
Talking about 'law and order situation', the commissioner said it was getting better and hoped that in the days ahead it will improve further.
It could be gauged from the fact that 'investment' is flowing into Pakistan uninterruptedly he said and added if the situation had been as serious as was being projected then how 'investment' could have found its way into Pakistan, he asked.-APP
