Ibrat, Kawish

major recipients

of ads among

regional NPs

ISLAMABAD: Ibrat and Kawish of Hyderabad are the major recipients of advertisements among the regional newspapers, Dr. Sher Afghan told the National Assembly during question hour on Thursday.

Both the newspapers received Rs. 6,83,600 and 44,118 respectively. The minister informed that the advertisements emanating from government departments are released according to the specific requirements of the sponsoring authorities.

He said while releasing the advertisements to the press, the primary consideration is to obtain maximum publicity for the sponsors and at the keeping in mind their overall requirements.

He said although circulation as certified by the ABC form the main criterion for selection of news-pagers for the release of advertisements, it is by no means the only criterion. The ability of the newspapers to reach the advertising targets their readership, their service to the cause of Pakistan are some of the other factors that have to be kept in view at the time of placing advertisements in the newspapers, he said.

The minister told the Miangul Aurangzeb that there are 95 newspapers and periodicals born on the Central Media List. Regarding the circulation figures of each, the minister said that because of an unwritten understanding between government and APNS revelation of circulation figures of newspapers was not desirable.

To question of Syed Abbas Shah, the minister said that to end this dis-proportion and discrimination the Information Ministry has issued instruction to the concern department.

To another question of Ch. Muhammad Jaffar Iqbal, the minister said it is not correct that government have been considering to hand over Khabernama to the private channel, neither privatisation of PTV or PTV-2 is under consideration.-APP
