Govt offices to

use re-cycled

paper

ISLAMABAD: Government offices will soon debar the use of conventional paper and instead switch over to the re-cycled paper, it was learnt here Thursday.

According to the information, the Ministry of Environment and Urban Affairs has prepared a draft of the order, which will soon be put before the cabinet for final approval.

However, it was not known exactly when the draft would be taken up by the cabinet and its final implementation in the government offices.

Most of the paper used in the country is not re-cycled, a process requiring expensive machinery. It is usually manufactured from the trees pulp or imported.

In most developed countries, the use of re-cycled paper is in vogue primarily to save the environment and tree cover. Many multi-national companies too have made it mandatory to switch over to the re-cycled paper.

The environmentalists say it would be a good step towards "going green" and saving precious trees which are hardly present over three per cent of the country's total area.-APP
